English

Within the English Department, Gifted and Talented students are given a number of avenues in which to exhibit their talents.  From Year 9 a top class is selected and this group is extended in a number of ways.  In particular, they sit the Trial School Certificate Test with the Year 10 students.

Each year, selected students from the lower years are chosen to attend the Sydney Writers Festival and listen to authors discuss the art of writing.

During Book Week students have the chance ‘Write a Novel in a Day’ in the school library either as an individual or with a partner.

Public Speaking & Debating

The talent of being able to be able to speak confidently, persuasively and eloquently is a skill that many people use throughout life.

Beyond the delivery of speeches in every English classroom, our students are also given several opportunities throughout the year to pursue their oratory interests.

Gifted and talented speakers at Marist North Shore are able to participate in competitions that enable them to compete with students from schools throughout Sydney.

The high calibre of students from the College who have participated in the CSDA Debating competition in Term 2, the CSDA Public Speaking competition in Term 1 and the AMSA Oratory in Term 3 have demonstrated the sophisticated articulatory skills of our students. Our successes in each competition throughout the past few years is highly commendable.

If you would like to be involved in future Oratory events speak with your English teacher.

Anne Reading, Public Speaking and Debating Coordinator.

This is a new and exciting initiative in the college this year. Lots of different talents and areas of interest are coming together to produce an online college newsletter. If students are interested in joining please see Ms. Freyne.
