2008 HSC Results

We are extremely pleased with the HSC results for 2008. 2008 being my first year here at Marist College North Shore, I was keen to see the Year 12s do well.  And I was more than a little anxious about these results.  However, I am quite pleased to report that my fears were unfounded.  The boys have achieved outstanding results and I congratulate each and every one of them.  There is also no doubt that the very high standard of teaching and dedication by our experienced staff has contributed to our students’ successes.  The hard work and commitment employed by the boys over the past two years has certainly paid off.  Marist College North Shore is producing good consistent results year after year, in an holistic and non selective comprehensive High School environment.

There were 40 Band 6 performances achieved by 20 of our students, and these were in 19 of the 26 subjects taught at the College.  This result demonstrates that we are giving students access to the top Bands across all subjects.  In our extension subjects, 70% of students achieved results in the top two Bands.  The performances of the boys in the two English extension subjects were especially pleasing, where 90% of them achieved results in the top 2 Bands.  There were terrific marks in a range of subjects including Ancient History, Biology, Economics, English (Advanced), Geography, Information Processes and Technology, Legal Studies, Music 1, Senior Science and Visual Arts.  In Music 1, over 70% of students achieved results in Bands 5 and 6.

Daniel Godfrey, with a near perfect UAI of 99.8, said he was confident he would do well.  “I was hoping for something over 98, and I am absolutely delighted to have achieved 99.8.  Last year in the Year 11 HSC accelerated program run at Marist, I gained 99 in Extension Mathematics 1 and 97 in Extension Mathematics 2.  I found this really took the pressure off me for this year.”   Daniel concludes his success was down to “Consistent study, time management, hard work, the support of my parents and excellent teachers.  Altogether this has given me the results I had hoped for.”
Year 11 students, who have been following the accelerated Mathematics program, have achieved outstanding results.  These boys have completed the HSC Mathematics course one year ahead of schedule.  Morgan Rendall scored top Band performances of 95 plus, in both Extension 1 and Extension 2 Mathematics, whilst Matthew Willmot and Kevin Chen achieved top Band performances in the Mathematics 2 unit course.  Completing some of their HSC one year early will allow these students to concentrate on their other subjects next year.

Whilst there is always room for improvement, we are all extremely pleased with these results.  We are proud of all our boys who have worked hard and added value to their learning in the subjects in which they are examined.  At the conclusion of Year 12 they take away with them much more than an exam mark.
