2009 HSC Results
Opportunities for all at Marist North Shore
Once again in 2009, there were some great HSC results for students of Marist College North Shore.
This year, 85 students completed their HSC with 21 students - one quarter of the cohort - achieving one or more Band 6’s – the highest possible rating.
College Headmaster, Br Peter Corr, believes this figure is significant as it highlights the high achievement by so many of the students.
“What was especially pleasing this year was that we had seven Year 11 students taking their HSC one year early, and each one achieved Band 6 in Extension Mathematics,” Br Peter said.
Br Peter believes that the overall success of the Year 12 students is evidence of the quality teaching that is happening at the school. “The hard work and dedication by both teachers and students has been well rewarded once again,” he said. “Strong achievements were recorded in all HSC subjects, but there were particularly impressive results in Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Our students and staff can feel proud of what they have been able to achieve.”
The top scoring student at the College in 2009, with an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of 99.1, was Morgan Rendall. In 2008 when aged just 16, Morgan achieved scores of 95 in both Extension 1 Mathematics and Extension 2 Mathematics. In 2009 he achieved a Band 6 result in both Chemistry and Physics.
Greg Duggan, Director of Teaching and Learning at the school, noted that along with the Band 6 results, the College also produced impressive outcomes in its Vocational/TVET courses, most noticeably in Construction and Hospitality. “This shows clearly that Marist continues to provide students a wide range of learning opportunities,” he said.
