Debating and Public Speaking

To be able to speak confidently and effectively in public is a skill that many people use throughout life. For this reason it is viewed as a very valuable activity for the boys at Marist North Shore. There are three major annual competitions in which students are involved, and many other opportunities for individuals to develop and practice their public speaking skills.

CDSA Debating

The College has been involved in the CSDA Competition for over thirty years. This competition involves Catholic Secondary Schools from all parts of Sydney. Rounds are held on Friday nights in Terms 1, 2 and 3.

CSDA Public Speaking

Held during the Term 1, this competition involves speakers from over 80 Catholic secondary schools in and around Sydney. It runs over five weeks, with three preliminary rounds followed by semi-final and final rounds.  For more information about the CSDA competition refer to the useful links section.

Marist Oratory Competition

Selected competitors from each year group represent our College at the regional Marist Oratory competition against other Marist schools. In 2014, Marist College North Shore won the competition, our first win in twenty-four years. 2015 was another successful year for MCNS in Marist Oratory as we tied for first place.
